Astiana Tomato Seeds

from $5.00

Astiana tomatoes are large, meaty, beautifully colored and shaped tomatoes with deep and rich flavor. Perhaps slightly juicier than a San Marzano or Roma, and good as a slicer; but a really, really, really (!) great sauce tomato. The best we’ve ever grown and eaten.

Mostly less lobed and easier to peel than Costoluto varieties and much bigger than most Romas or San Marzanos. 1 pound each is common and 10 oz is average. Some reach close to 2 lbs. WAY better tasting than San Marzano Gigante or Amish Paste. Few seeds.

Originally sourced from the Po Valley, Italy by Ayers Creek Farm. They grew and bred these wonderful tomatoes perfectly for years, but closed forever 5 years ago. We’ve grown Astiana for years and are not aware of other sources of seed for this strain. Indeterminate and not a hybrid, but maybe not an “heirloom.” If you are looking for something unchanged for decades this may not be it, but what it is is spectacular!

Delicious, high yield, blossom end-rot resistant (here in Portland, Oregon), high in pectin, few seeds, hangs well on the vine without rotting and stays ripe on the counter as well. What more could you want?

Seeds from “pink” (the original color, something like a Brandywine) or true red fruits are $5 for 0.2 grams – about ½ what the great Territorial Seeds charges for tomatoes.

NOTE: THE “RED” VARIETY IS SOLD OUT FOR THE YEAR! BUT WE HAVE PLENTY OF THE ORIGINAL (and we think best) Pink

$20 for 1 gram (that’s a lot – more than a home gardener needs but great for sharing with friends)

Skeptical? Google Astiana Tomaotes and see what others think. We sell out every year – so don’t wait too long. February will be here before you know it.
